What is the promotion?
The Sun is offering primary schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland the chance to claim a set of free Collins Big Cat books for schools worth over £600. Schools must register online from Saturday, November 2 – Friday, November 22 2019 to take part. Once successfully registered, each school must collect 3,500 tokens which are printed in The Sun every day from Saturday, November 23 2019 – Saturday, January 18 2020. Only schools can register but the tokens can be collected by anybody to help the schools.
How long is the promotion running for?
The registration period for schools is Saturday, November 2 – Friday, November 22, 2019. The token collect period to collect 3,500 tokens is from Saturday, November 23 – Saturday, January 18, 2020.
The closing date for schools to send in their 3,500 tokens is strictly Saturday, February 8, 2020.
HOW TO TAKE PART
How do I take part in the promotion?
- Register your school here (only schools can register using official contact information) from Saturday, November 2 – Friday, November 22, 2019.
- Collect 3,500 tokens printed daily in The Sun from Saturday, November 23 2019 – Saturday, January 18 2020.
- Once collected, return your 3,500 tokens in the envelope provided (in the starter pack sent out early November). You will need to attach your bonus tokens to the bonus sheet which you can download from thesunfreebooksforschools.co.uk, and then add your sheets, along with the normal daily tokens, into the envelope.
- Return your envelope by recorded delivery to The Sun Books for Schools, PO Box 13263, Nether Road, Galashiels, TD1 9AJ strictly before Saturday, February 8 2020.
Am I eligible to register?
To register your school you must be over the age of 18 and be employed by the school you are trying to register. An official valid school email address and phone number will be required to register your school for this promotion. Your school must be within England, Wales or Northern Ireland to be eligible to register. This promotion is not open to primary schools in Scotland.
Can I collect tokens for my local school?
If you have some tokens that you wish to donate to a local school and you do not have a contact at the school please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org to check if they are registered. Please do not send the tokens directly to The Sun.
Do I need to purchase The Sun?
Yes, this promotion requires you to purchase copies of The Sun in order to collect the 3,500 printed tokens required to claim the free set of books.
Can I register my school more than once?
No, each school can only be registered once. Once it has been registered for the promotion it cannot be registered again.
How do I know if my school is registered?
Once a school has been registered on the registration site you will receive a unique code which you should keep a safe note of. You will also receive a confirmation email to the official school email address provided which will also include your unique code.

Do I need internet access to take part in the promotion?
Yes, online access is required to register your school in the promotion.
Where can I find the tokens?
The tokens will be printed daily in The Sun and The Sun on Sunday between Saturday, November 23 2019 – Saturday, January 18 2020.
Can I collect Sun Savers codes instead?
If you are a member of Sun Savers, our rewards club, unfortunately you cannot use Sun Savers codes to collect for this promotion. Only physical, printed tokens can be used.
REDEEMING THE FREE BOOKS
How do I send my tokens in?
All 3,500 tokens need to be posted back by recorded delivery to the address below no later than Saturday, February 8 2020.
You will need to attach your bonus tokens to the bonus sheet which you can download from thesunfreebooksforschools.co.uk, and then add your sheets, along with the normal daily tokens, into the envelope.

Please don’t forget to include your school’s name along with your unique code received on registration. Please write your unique code clearly on the space provided on the front of your return envelope.
How will I know if I have collected enough tokens?
We recommend that you count all bonus and daily tokens before sending them in. Once they are received back to us, we will also check them. Please remember to add your bonus tokens to the free downloadable bonus token sheet before adding them to your envelope.
All schools that have successfully collected enough tokens will receive a confirmation email on 20th February 2020 to confirm that your school has qualified for the free set of books.
When will my school get their books?
All books will be delivered no later than Tuesday, March 31 2020.
THE FREE BOOKS
What books are available?
All schools that have registered and send in the required 3,500 tokens will receive the specified set of Collins Big Cat Learning Library Books. The set contains 106 books suitable for children in P1 through to P7. A full list of the books will be available in the starter pack sent to schools in early November and can be viewed online at collins.co.uk/TheSunfreebooksforschools once the promotion has launched.
Can I change any of the books?
No, the collection of books is a set selection. However, additional books can be ordered from HarperCollins direct. Information on how to do this is included in the starter pack which is sent in the post at the beginning of the campaign.
How many sets of books are available?
There is one set of books available per school. Any tokens collected above the 3,500 required will not be counted towards a further set.
I’m having trouble entering my details. What should I do?
Please make sure you’re following all the on-screen instructions carefully and that you’re entering all fields marked with an asterisk (*). You will be prompted online if there are any mistakes or errors. If you’re still having problems, please contact The Sun‘s Books for Schools customer services team at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
My computer / the website crashed as I was entering my details to register my school, how will I know if I’ve registered successfully?
A valid entry has been made if:
- All fields were completed and a confirmation box/unique code appeared.
- If you have successfully registered, you will also be sent a confirmation email including further details of the promotion.
- If your computer or the website crashes during this process, please revisit the website and try to register again. If your previous registration was not completed you will be able to register again. If you continue to experience problems, please get in touch with the customer services team at email@example.com.
The website isn’t loading / working properly. What should I do?
Please refresh your browser and try to access the page again. It may be that you need to clear your cache by holding down ‘CTRL’ and pressing ‘F5’; this consists of data stored by your computer to enable similar future actions to be completed quicker. If you experience problems on one device, please try on another. If you experience problems with one browser then please try an alternative browser. If you continue to experience problems, please get in touch with our customer services team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I think I might have entered the wrong details. What should I do?
If you believe you may have entered your details incorrectly, you can contact our customer services team at email@example.com. However, the promoter or its fulfilment agency cannot be held responsible for non-delivery of the promotional items caused as a result of providing incorrect information.
